Robert Bruce, a Scotsman, found Assam tea. He discovered wild plants that resembled Chinese tea plants and collected them for future examination. Before leaving, he is supposed to have taught the local tribesmen how to make Best Assam Tea in Delhi from the plant's leaves. However, it took several years after the plant was discovered before it was formally identified as a separate variation of the same Camellia species of tea plant native to China. China had a monopoly on the tea trade at the time. Trade with China was costing the Empire a lot of money because of the large public demand for Best Assam Tea in Delhi in the UK. The discovery of Assam tea prompted the British to establish their own tea farms. Assam's earliest tea farms were built in the 1830s. They were first planted with tea plants imported from China. However, it rapidly became evident that the Chinese type was just unsuitable for the circumstances in Assam, and it was swiftly replaced by local Best Assam Tea in Delhi. Assam tea was initially introduced to the London markets in the year 1839.
Maintaining tea plantations, on the other hand, is a time-consuming procedure. To maximise output and profit, the British brought in inexpensive labour from throughout the nation to work alongside locals on the plantations. The working conditions were deplorable, and the remuneration was pitiful. Fortunately, the situation is considerably better today, thanks to labour regulations and unions that safeguard plantation employees.
